Charter on the use of artificial intelligence

1. Purpose and scope

This charter governs the use of artificial intelligence technologies, including generative AI (“AI”), by the team of the online press service hiboo.expert. It applies to everyone involved in producing the service: salaried editorial staff, external contributors and the IT contractor.

2. Founding principle: editorial responsibility is human

AI is a tool in service of the newsroom; it does not replace it. Topic selection, editorial line, published assessments and the decision to publish rest exclusively with the newsroom, under the authority of the editor-in-chief and the responsibility of the publisher. No editorial content is published without having been conceived, directed, reworked and validated by the newsroom.

3. Permitted uses

• Assistance with image creation and editorial production (analyses, flash notes, newsletters): gathering and cross-checking information, documentary preparation, help with drafting and formatting, based on verified sources supplied by the newsroom (company accounts and releases, registration documents, public statistics, licensed data).
• Support for verification: cross-checking facts and figures, with the newsroom remaining sole judge of the reliability of published information.
• Automated generation of documentary content for the consultation tool (outside the editorial scope): activity descriptions of listed companies, produced from licensed data and labelled as such.

4. Rules of use

• It is forbidden to enter into an AI tool subscribers’ personal data, payment data, or any confidential information relating to the company, its clients or its partners.
• Information produced with the help of AI is never reused without verification: every fact or figure intended for publication is checked against primary sources.
• AI is not used to generate content published as-is without newsroom involvement, nor to produce recommendations; the wording of published assessments rests solely with the newsroom.

5. Review and validation

Any editorial publication that has used AI assistance is systematically reviewed and validated by another member of the editorial team and under the responsibility of the publisher. Automatically generated documentary content (screener descriptions) is subject to sample checks and corrections on request.

6. Transparency

Automatically generated descriptions in the consultation tool carry a notice to that effect. Editorial publications, conceived and validated by the newsroom under this charter, appear under the collective responsibility of the newsroom.

7. Contact person and follow-up

The service’s AI contact person is the publisher. They oversee compliance with this charter; AI uses and tool developments are reviewed collegially by the team at least every quarter. The charter is revised as needed.
